About Me

I solve problems in creative ways. In my second year at Duke University, I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science. I’m interested in the applications of bioinformatics and data analytics towards the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries (such as drug development). I have a strong research background in Molecular Biology and Medical Imaging. I take pride in developing data-driven solutions to business and academic challenges.

I am currently seeking opportunities related to bioinformatics, data science, product management, and/or research & development. Keep exploring my site to learn more information about me, and reach out directly with any questions.

Data Scientist @ Duke Applied ML

I am currently working on three projects as a member of the Data Science team, focused on building, implementing, and deploying end-to-end machine learning models to solve research and business problems.

  1. Course Scheduling: Scheduling courses at Duke is initially done intra-departmentally and without knowledge of the courses scheduled by other departments. I am working to implement Duke University’s historical raw course scheduling data (classes, number of sections, when they are scheduled, the number of students in class and in each section) and historical major/minor/certificate combinations to visualize the existing “course landscape” when entering a new class through an assistive heatmap.

  2. Woo Center Clinical Analyte Project: Due to the large volume of patients that Duke Health sees -- as well as the sheer number of vendors, instruments, and other variables -- the laboratory values that are received often look different when they are in fact the same laboratory test. My goals are to explore and clean clinical analyte data and cluster similar labs together through various forms of string representation and distance metrics.

  3. Supply Chain Visualization: There is a lack of data analytics tools currently available for private blockchains. Companies may not have the resources to build out these tools too. We plan on tackling this through building custom dashboards with analytics and visualizations for private blockchains.

Sep 2019 - Feb 2020

Undergraduate Research Assistant @ Duke Medical Physics

I worked on a research team that studies hyperpolarized 129-Xe MRI technology available for high-resolution imaging of pulmonary function. The team is currently supporting both pre-clinical and clinical research studies. My role was to process lung ventilation image data from patient MRI scans into clinical reports mapping ventilation defects for doctors to utilize in the clinical setting. I coded scripts in Matlab, Python & Gitlab, while also implementing imaging software ITK-SNAP and MITK-Workbench for some manual image processing operations. I was also a published author on my research mentor's abstract: Bias Field Correction in Hyperpolarized 129-Xe Gas Ventilation MRI.

Bioreactor Bag Calculator

EGR 101 Design Project

Background: The Marcus Center for Cellular Cures at Duke University has two bioreactors that grow cells used in biotherapies to treat diseases such as autism, cerebral palsy, & stroke, given a constant media flow rate which could have up to 20% error

Primary Work: Developing a method to accurately measure the remaining volume of cell media in a bioreactor bag and determine when the bag will be empty so that the media does not run out, to save the lab’s time and money

Results: Assembled a functional final prototype to be tested by clients before implementation
